“Plan Your Epitaph Day”: It was established November 2 coincide with the Day of the Dead.
Epitaph? What is that you ask? Well, it is a phrase or form of words written in memory of a person who has died, especially as an inscription on a tombstone. Sounds a little bit morbid? I am sure most would not want to have to really think about what would be written on our headstones when we die. I am sure there are some whys floating out there. Why would you think about this? Why would you plan a day around it?
When you stop to think about it, maybe it’s best if you do it. You never know what a relative or friend may put on your tombstone once you’re gone. Or, worse still, what if they “don’t” say anything? While we’re young, we think this is a long way off. As we age, and get wiser, more of us consider getting directly involved with our epitaph, as well as all the details of our demise.
But let’s take this a bit more seriously. What if what gets written on your headstone is how everyone will remember you? Now what would you like it to say? What is going to be your legacy? The only way to leave a legacy that you want is to lead a life that will reflect it. If I want to be remembered for my generosity then I best be generous with my time, money, and encouragement. Decide now how you want to live your lie so that those left when you die will know exactly what to write on your headstone.
Until next time….
