Dieting, like any other skill, gets easier the more you practice it. If you think, “this is so hard, there is no way I can keep it up forever,” remind yourself that it WON’T be this hard forever so that’s not an accurate concern. Even though it’s hard now, in 2 months it will be easier and in 2 years it will be MUCH easier.
Along with the thoughts of something being too hard, you will often hear “I can’t”. These negative thoughts can make it overwhelming and soon you will giving up. Giving up on a goal and desire to healthier and thinner. When flush with negative thoughts, you can take that thought and either make it neutral or you can spin it and make it positive.
Some example: Looking at the beginning statement of it’s too hard. Flip it around and say it is too hard to give up on my goals. I can do this. Or another example I like when you are thinking “I can’t” is to flip it around and ask “How can I?”
-I can’t do this forever…..turns into….How can I do this forever?
-I can’t stay on my diet through the holidays….turns into…How can I stay on my diet through the holidays?
Don’t let you thoughts control you, decide that you are in control.
