I do not think I have met anyone who has not suffered from Foot in Mouth Disease at least once. I am sure mots people (at least the ones I know) have suffered from this multiple times. I sure have. I try not to contract this disease but nonetheless it does happens. How does one contract Foot in Mouth Disease? Well according to the dictionary …It is when you say or do something that offends, upsets or embarrasses someone else. The thing you said (or did) usually gets you into trouble, especially if you hadn’t thought carefully before speaking or doing it.
How do you recover from this disease? There are 4 steps to help with the recovery process.
1. Quickly assess the potential damage. If the effect is minimal, make a quick apology and move on. If more damage control is necessary, schedule a private meeting face to face to formally and sincerely apologize.
2. Determine what action you may need to take to acknowledge the mistake publicly, to appease the offended party.
3. Keep your reaction in line with the scope of the offense, and don’t make a bigger deal of something than you need to, because often people forget quickly.
4. Review tips for avoiding thsoe kinds of sitiuations so that you can avoid it in the future. Here are some we found:
*Watch what you say.
*Don’t make sweeping statements.
*Be sure you know what you are talking about.
Even those who try hard to be thoughtful and conscientious still swallow a toe or toe here andthere. But with some work we can avoid doing it regualrly.
Until next time….
